Direct Air Capture (DAC), as the name suggests, is an initiative to directly remove CO2 from the atmosphere, and is attracting attention as a "decarbonization" technology for reducing greenhouse gases.<\/p>\n
The capture mechanism works by sending air through a fan mounted on the device, which causes the adsorbent inside the device to adsorb CO2, thereby capturing CO2 from the atmosphere. The adsorbed CO2 is separated by heating, compressed, and permanently stored underground or on the ocean floor, etc. After CO2 is separated, the adsorbent can be reused, so the above process can be repeated to recover large amounts of CO2.<\/p>\n
Because DAC uses fans to collect large volumes of air, it has the advantage of capturing CO2 more efficiently than afforestation or other methods. On the other hand, since the demerit of high energy consumption exists in driving fans, producing adsorbent, and heating adsorbent to separate CO2, countries are considering using DAC in combination with green energy such as sunlight.<\/p>\n
